Multi Colour Laser Systems
Since the advent of lasers in the entertainment industry many have perceived them as being large, complex and expensive items that are financially out of the reach of most and far too temperamental and difficult to use by all but the super human! Perhaps, in the early years, this was the case but not any more.
With the introduction of DPSS (Diode-Pumped Solid-State) lasers which are made by pumping a solid gain medium, for example; a ruby or a neodymium-doped YAG crystal, with a diode, lasers have become more compact and far more efficient. Gone are the days of water cooling and the requirement for a 63A 3-phase supply for just a 2 Watt output! Today, the same output can be created by a DPSS laser running from a normal domestic power point and cooled simply by a few small fans similar to those in a desk top computer!
With the introduction of these small laser diodes it has been possible to make very compact RGB (Red, Green, Blue) laser projectors capable of mixing these primary colours to create thousands of colour variants - with some systems in excess of 16 million colours!
